It's well known that the whole "likes" thing on Facebook is a copy of what you see in Las Vegas (slot machines etc.). In other words, people get a dopamine rush from stuff getting liked. Anyway, though, I am cynical about likes for other reasons also. Well, it seems like it's become the domain of popular posters who get likes for whatever they post, no matter how dumb, while unpopular posters are not rewarded, even for interesting or funny material.

I will agree that social media has become a scourge on society. People do things to get likes, shares and other passing word of mouth sharing, not because they want to. I think it all comes down to people not having the capability to limit their access and use of it.

There are always people who can't stop talking. You know those people from back in school, and social media feeds it.

But people who can't stop talking can be entertaining, though it often leads to bullying.
