An entry for a microfiction competition - 24 hour competition, write 100 words with the following prompt: must be in genre of romance, must include action ‘borrowing clothing’, must include word ‘still’.
A mate invited me to his wedding. Spared best man duties, thankfully.
Still, had to borrow a suit that actually fitted, didn’t realise I’d lost weight since last time. I’d worked out some.
Lovely ceremony. Best man’s speech droned on, until I made eye contact with this stunning redhead. Smoldering, hungry eyes.
The afternoon wore on, the first dance. You know how weddings are.
Hungry Eyes found me later, we shared a drink, a cheeky snog. The look of love. She wanted more. Me too.
Couldn’t say ‘I do’ though, because she’d vowed that to her husband before everyone that afternoon…
This was one of the tougher 100 word challenges I’ve ever done. It didn’t progress to the next round of the competition, but it did get an honourable mention from the judges, which I’ll take.
