Until Dawn Video Game Adaptation Sets Official Release Date

Sony Pictures announced the release date for its upcoming Until Dawn film adaptation. Based on the 2015 PlayStation exclusive horror game of the same title, Until Dawn follows eight friends and frenemies as they survive the night at a remote mountain retreat while a mysterious killer hunts them down. The feature, directed by David F. Sandberg, will arrive in theaters next spring, April 25, 2025.

The drama horror game was originally created by Supermassive Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Players control the eight young adults as they explore Blackwood Mountain and fight to survive. The game received great praise for the juicy teen drama of the character stories, impressive graphics, and immersive environment. Fans loved the uniquely featured butterfly effect of the game, in which players must make choices that change the potential ending of the story. All playable characters can survive or die, depending on the decisions made. Rolling Stone called Until Dawn, “the peak of chose your own adventure horror.”

In 2024, Ballistic Moon took over from Supermassive Games and remade Until Dawn, but the new version received mixed reviews. While it offered new features, including new endings, additional scenes tying up loose plot lines, and greater accessibility options, some fans felt the remake was unnecessary. Audiences seem more receptive to the news of a big screen adaptation, especially considering the big names attached to the project.
