Tom Cruise and 'Edge of Tomorrow' Director are Finally Moving Forward with Long-Delayed Movie
Tom Cruise is reuniting with director Doug Liman for a new movie, but don’t get too excited that this could be for Edge of Tomorrow 2. No, while fans are still not getting that sequel yet, they will be following up the success of their 2014 sci-fi action thriller and 2017’s American Made with the supernatural horror movie Deeper . While Cruise dabbled in family-friendly horror with Universal’s disastrous reboot of The Mummy, it looks like this will be a more mature and traditional “scary” movie for the pair to get their teeth into.
Deeper was originally announced back in 2016, but since then, the film has gone through many different combinations of directors and actors with names such as Idris Elba, Gal Gadot, Kornel Mundruczo, and Baltasar Kormakur coming and going over the years. While it appeared that the film was destined to languish in development hell forever, the deal Cruise signed with Warner Bros. at the beginning of the year looks to have potentially saved it from that fate.
Liman shared details of his next team-up with the Mission: Impossible star during a special screening of the documentary Gaucho Gaucho. As per Showbiz 411, Liman mentioned that he and Cruise are planning their first “scary” collaboration as something that neither of them have really done before. He did not elaborate any further on a timeline for the production of the film, but we can be sure to discover more soon.
