Sleep, a once peaceful, common everyday thing had been reduced to a luxury that individuals took when they could get it. Which wasn't very often since the war had grown more fierce and they had been thrust into battle after battle, trying to get from one place to another without rest. The crew was tired and was catching a few moments of rest before they knew the alarm would sound and they would be thrust once more into the chaos of war. Chris was sleeping peacefully in his cabin and the guards posted outside were deadly serious in their duties of keeping things as peaceful as could be. They, like so many others in the fleet, knew just how important this man had become for their salvation.
An ensign bustled through the decks of the Indomitable Spirit carrying a message from the bridge for the captain. He knew the captain was sleeping and was nervous, tense really. He knew that he would be walking into dark territory that could have him harshly punished but the acting captain had been insistent the captain be told the news. He shouldered his way through several engineers working on fixing one of the rogue circuits that had decided to play haywire lately. He stepped into the elevator and hit the button, there was a slight rushing sensation as he was taken down several floors to the living quarters.
He approached the last door at the end of the hall with caution, acutely aware of the guards with guns aimed at him. He lifted the message to the guard in charge and with a grunt the marine motioned the ensign through. The door opened with a hiss. "Captain?"
There was a slight moan from the cot and then a light was turned on, illuminating the figure in shadow. The man stood and rubbed his scalp and let out a startling yawn before climbing into his uniform. He sat at his desk and motioned the young man forward. The ensign gulped and nervously approached the man.
"What is it son?" The man was handed the letter. "Ah, we're approaching our destination. Luke?"
"Yes?!?" One of the guards walked into the room and stood at attention.
"At rest sergeant, take this young man here and get him something to drink to ease his nerves."
"Yes sir, right away!" The guard led the ensign away down the hall toward the mess.
The man turned towards the monitors on his desk. He pressed the intercom on his center console. "Bridge!"
"Yes Captain?" The acting captain saluted.
"Prepare to exit hyperspace. Alert all crews. I'm on my way." His words were greeted with a blaring klaxon and the sound of an automated message being broadcast all over the ship.
Alert....All crews prepare for exit from hyperspace...Alert...Prepare for exit from hyperspace..
T-Minus 20 till exit....

Chris grabbed his cap from the edge of his chair and headed out of his cabin, pressing in the combination and the door closed behind him with a hiss. He walked by the bustling crew, who hastily stopped to salute the captain before returning to their duties, and entered the elevator. The doors closed and he was soon climbing the layers of the ship, to the bridge.
"Captain on deck!" The crew stood at attention, saluting the captain. Chris approached the captain's chair, where the acting captain stood and saluted.
"Handing control of the bridge over to Admiral Chris Borden." Chris nodded and the acting captain resumed his usual position in the co-captain's seat.
The captain braced himself as the countdown for exit from hyperspace counted down to zero, there was a brief shaking and then a vast nothingness greeted them.
"Comm, contact all other fleet captains!" The Comm Officer saluted and pressed a button, a screen flickered into being above the center deck of the bridge.
