'Jurassic Park' Writer Teases Returning to the "Spirit of the First Movie" for 'Jurassic World Rebirth'

Sorry for the cringe pun, but: this sounds absolutely dino-mite, does it not? The co-writer of Jurassic Park is back for the latest installment — Jurassic World Rebirth — and he's teasing some very exciting details about the new film. Teaming up with director Gareth Edwards, writer David Koepp says that even though the next installment of the Steven Spielberg classic has "a new tone," it will also evoke the "spirit of the first movie." Which will no doubt be a very exciting prospect for fans of the Michael Crichton novels-turned-blockbuster movies.

In a new interview with TheWrap, Koepp provided some exciting updates and details about the forthcoming sequel, which has already gotten tongues wagging thanks to the intriguing new photos recently released in an Entertainment Weekly summer movie preview.

When asked about what drew him to return to the universe after several films away, Koepp explained that it was "the idea of starting afresh. You don't often get that chance, where they give you very few guidelines, except there must be dinosaurs in it."

'Jurassic World Rebirth' Unveils First Footage Ahead of This Week's Trailer Release

The full trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth drops this Wednesday, but ahead of its world premiere, we have a brief preview showcasing the first footage from the dinosaur sequel. Set to release on July 2, 2025, the seventh film in the franchise stars newcomers Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, and picks up five years after the events depicted in 2022's Jurassic World Dominion.

Courtesy of Discussing Film on X, the Jurassic World Rebirth teaser (seen below) gives us a quick glimpse of Johansson's character of Zora Bennett, and Bailey's Dr. Henry Loomis as they emerge from the tall jungle grass to catch sight of the tail of a prehistoric beast. Johansson – who plays a covert operation expert – is decked out in full survival gear and holding a gun, while Bailey's paleontologist wears a backpack, flannel-printed shirt, and a utility vest.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Jurassic World Rebirth will not see the return of either Chris Pratt or Bryce Dallas Howard, but instead take the series in a new direction as the latest installment hopes to kick off what will be another trilogy of films. Based on the synopsis below, Rebirth promises to build on past events and reveal new secrets that have been kept hidden, while at the same time providing longtime fans with enough dinosaur fun to hold their interest.

"Five years after Jurassic World Dominion, Earth's ecology confines dinosaurs to equatorial zones. Zora Bennett, a covert ops expert, leads a team to secure genetic material from massive dinosaurs for a life-saving drug. However, stranded on their mission, they discover a devastating secret hidden for decades."
