After an epically unfiltered rant, an arrogant, loudmouth U.S. Army Colonel is reassigned to the Netherlands, where he is punished with a command position at the least important army base in the world. After serving with distinction in every warzone of the last three decades, he now finds himself in charge of a base with no guns, no weapons and no tactical purpose. Instead, it has a Michelin-star-level commissary, top-notch bowling alley and the best (and only) fromagerie in the U.S. Army. Surrounded by a diverse group of underdogs, the colonel tries to reinstall military discipline and professionalism with the help of the base's previous interim leader, who just happens to be his estranged daughter.

  8. Sleep, a once peaceful, common everyday thing had been reduced to a luxury that individuals took when they could get it. Which wasn't very often since the war had grown more fierce and they had been thrust into battle after battle, trying to get from one place to another without rest. The crew was tired and was catching a few moments of rest before they knew the alarm would sound and they would be thrust once more into the chaos of war. Chris was sleeping peacefully in his cabin and the guards posted outside were deadly serious in their duties of keeping things as peaceful as could be. They, like so many others in the fleet, knew just how important this man had become for their salvation. An ensign bustled through the decks of the Indomitable Spirit carrying a message from the bridge for the captain. He knew the captain was sleeping and was nervous, tense really. He knew that he would be walking into dark territory that could have him harshly punished but the acting captain had been insistent the captain be told the news. He shouldered his way through several engineers working on fixing one of the rogue circuits that had decided to play haywire lately. He stepped into the elevator and hit the button, there was a slight rushing sensation as he was taken down several floors to the living quarters. He approached the last door at the end of the hall with caution, acutely aware of the guards with guns aimed at him. He lifted the message to the guard in charge and with a grunt the marine motioned the ensign through. The door opened with a hiss. "Captain?" There was a slight moan from the cot and then a light was turned on, illuminating the figure in shadow. The man stood and rubbed his scalp and let out a startling yawn before climbing into his uniform. He sat at his desk and motioned the young man forward. The ensign gulped and nervously approached the man. "What is it son?" The man was handed the letter. "Ah, we're approaching our destination. Luke?" "Yes?!?" One of the guards walked into the room and stood at attention. "At rest sergeant, take this young man here and get him something to drink to ease his nerves." "Yes sir, right away!" The guard led the ensign away down the hall toward the mess. The man turned towards the monitors on his desk. He pressed the intercom on his center console. "Bridge!" "Yes Captain?" The acting captain saluted. "Prepare to exit hyperspace. Alert all crews. I'm on my way." His words were greeted with a blaring klaxon and the sound of an automated message being broadcast all over the ship. Alert....All crews prepare for exit from hyperspace...Alert...Prepare for exit from hyperspace.. T-Minus 20 till exit.... 19.... 18... 17... Chris grabbed his cap from the edge of his chair and headed out of his cabin, pressing in the combination and the door closed behind him with a hiss. He walked by the bustling crew, who hastily stopped to salute the captain before returning to their duties, and entered the elevator. The doors closed and he was soon climbing the layers of the ship, to the bridge. "Captain on deck!" The crew stood at attention, saluting the captain. Chris approached the captain's chair, where the acting captain stood and saluted. "Handing control of the bridge over to Admiral Chris Borden." Chris nodded and the acting captain resumed his usual position in the co-captain's seat. The captain braced himself as the countdown for exit from hyperspace counted down to zero, there was a brief shaking and then a vast nothingness greeted them. "Comm, contact all other fleet captains!" The Comm Officer saluted and pressed a button, a screen flickered into being above the center deck of the bridge.
  9. G R A L E // P R I V A T E // A C A D E M Y Plot: Grale Private Academy was established by the current Headmaster, Henry Merigold, around five to ten years ago according to the last recorded school records. Grale prides itself on accepting only the brightest and richest of students bringing in students from all over the world and hosts some of the greatest professors of the current age. Grale sets high standards for it's students accepting nothing but the best. Fun, such a word never existed at Grale Academy. Students are required to constantly be seeking knowledge of some form or another through research or projects. Unbeknown to the Headmaster, many of the professors understand what it was like to be a teenager and allow the children to do minor activities to relieve some of the stress the academy may present them. Things were going well at Grale Academy, until around a week ago. Something bad happened, something no one would have expected at such a marvelous academy. Someone was murdered, a student, a friend, a child. The only problem is the academy covered up the incident to protect their reputation and the only ones who know about it are our main characters. Enter the classic roles; the leader, the suck-up, the genius, the jock, the computer nerd, and the coward. These six individuals saw the murder and have set the mission of finding out just who murdered the student, who at one time had been their friend. Only they have been noticing some strange things lately. Someone or something doesn't want them investigating and will stop at nothing till they are silent or are silenced. The strangest and scariest fact of all is that it is one of them, but which one... Rules/Guidelines: Only sign up if you're interested in joining and continuously participating in the role play. 10. Name: Richard Mannigan, named after his late grandfather Lee Richard Mannigan. Age: 35 Gender: Male Pre-Virus Employment: Park Ranger Personality: Tough, and oftentimes stubborn. Richard enjoyed his freedom as a bachelor and never could quite settle down. He was always a bit restless and he loved his job. When the virus struck and the environment started claiming back the cities, he found his biology skills/knowledge sought after. Loyal to his friends, and cruel, and heartless to those who betray him. He enjoys hanging out with friends, and isn't afraid to be a little romantic every now and then. Physical Appearance: Equipment: Richard carries a hunting (bowie) knife, a book bag that holds all of his remaining possessions, a .9mm pistol, and work gloves. History: Born into a struggling, lower-class family in the suburbs of a big city. Richard sought to get out and make a difference for himself. By the age of ten he had received several academic awards, and multiple sports awards. He slowly began to drift away from his family until he eventually ran away after graduating high school. He worked part-time at several jobs to pay his way through college until receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management with a minor in Criminal Justice. He worked hard and got hired as a Park Ranger at the local, National Park. When the virus struck he had been on the way home from work, and had wrecked. Stranded in the wilderness, he had struggled back to the city to find only chaos and terror.
  11. The Plot So Far... It is the year 2021, and the world is almost devoid of human life. Cars lay rusting, parked for owners who will never return to move them. Buildings are crumbling and in disrepair. Few of them are still worthy of supporting living. The road sigh with pain and regret, and nature has begun to move in and reclaim her own. Trees grow proudly in the streets where before well-maintained concrete would have suffocated them. Rivers grow and weave around former boundaries, unable to be held back now that man is no longer maintaining it's restrictions. People roam throughout this empty, almost tranquil landscape in the search of somewhere to call their own and try to start over. Governments have tried since the virus to restore order but a hurting humanity never listened. The current government is nothing more than a puppetry, with no real power or strength. They serve as mere guidance to the populace and recite the freedoms that people used to have. Marauders and small gangs of looters hold the true sway in this broken, bleeding world. They claim what they want and care nothing of it's value to you. They would sooner murder than give a thought toward helping humanity. Their leader is a ruthless man by the name of Luster Kholes, a former Irish immigrant, who sees this as an opportunity to increase his power over the people to eventually become the only form of 'government'. His gangs are constantly seeking more developing communities to pillage and oftentimes they kill after stealing, depending on how much of a reception they received. The large, empty city where our story focuses resembles Los Angeles in the size, and you can find tons of rivers and streams. The problem isn't finding them, but filtering the water of all of the nasty products that make it undrinkable. Players can choose to be a member of the marauders, a survivor or a wanderer. The key is to survive in any way possible. I shall be playing, but can also through in twists to the role play. It is up to you to choose how your character reacts to these changes. Role Player Character Guidelines & Character Template: There is no age limit, your character can be a child or a aging elder. But keep it reasonable, you wouldn't find a 109 year old in this environment, even if they were in the best of shape. There are no canon characters at the moment, because Luster is going to remain as a NPC and his actions will be controlled by me. I will be starting the role play when we have at least two players. Every character will be starting the role play fatigued, to simulate as if the event had just happened. Name: Character's name. Age: Character's age. Gender: Character's gender. Pre-Virus Employment: What did your character do before the virus? Personality: What kind of person is your character? Appearance: What does your character look like? What is your character wearing? Equipment: What does your character have on their person? History: (Minimum is one paragraph.) Some questions that could help. Where was your character born? Are their parents still alive? 13. Story: Humans live in a world they believe devoid of fantasy and mythology, completely unaware that is how the very creatures they used to fear want them to live. They are tired of running, hiding and being hunted to extinction like many years ago when humans were much more superstitious. They also have enjoyed the technological advances humanity has made with gadgets such as cellphones, GPS and the Internet. These certainly interesting "people" have to start somewhere. This is where the Hyde Institute for Youngsters comes in. This fantastic school is a private campus for the youngsters of many famous and oftentimes thought extinct races to gather and learn the ways of the world while also learning more about their darker pasts as well. Teachers, monsters in their own rights teach these starving minds how to blend in with humanity so that they too can go about their lives without fear. The Headmaster, Mr. Hyde, is a man shrouded in mystery and who is famed as a powerful, almost god-like sorcerer who used his magic to shroud the campus from view, both satellite and eyes alike. 'Screams, cries of terror and fear, gunfire, explosions. The world has ended and we are one of the few left to live in the shattered remains.' Was a quote I heard once from a man I thought was too crazy to know better. I didn't believe him at first, refused to. There was no reason for the world to end, no justification. His words felt heavy, like lead, as he uttered them. Each one heavier than the last until you felt suffocated at the end by the sheer weight of his proclamation. Was he wrong? Was he right? Even now, standing atop a charred, rusted remains of what used to be a luxury sedan, I still wonder on the truth of his words. The world has ended and I am one of the few left behind as one of God's cruel jokes. The smell of ashes is thick in the air, though the fires have long since burned themselves out, leaving creaking, metal skeletons and black outlines upon the earth. My boots crushed bones beneath my feet, silent curses leaving my feet as I heard faint moans in the distance, hoping they did not hear me. Hoping they would not react, that they would remain blissfully unawares of my presence. I was so close, so close to finding out the truth of what started this hell. What brought about the end of the world as that beggar once so kindly imbued me with. "Do you hear that?" One of the men behind me whispered fearfully. "Walkers." "Yes," I growled from deep in my throat. "Now keep quiet before they hear us."
  15. This is the central idea hub for the space colonization role play. Current ideas: - Earth is a desolate, dying wasteland after countless years of war, starvation and drought. 16. Name: Arrak Fearlessheart Age: 20 Race: Rockland Minotaur Physical Description: Arrak is an impressive Minotaur, standing at approximately 7'2". He towers over most humans, elves and orcs. Two massive horns stretch out from his brow, each ending in a gold-tipped point. His face is distinctly bovine and where most minotaurs have two eyes, Arrak has only one from an injury when sparring with a fellow minotaur when he was younger that ruined his left eye. He has since covered it with a black patch. His entire, bovine head is covered in a platemail helm with special slots crafted to allow easy removal without tangling with his horns. His head sits on a short, thick, bull-like neck that broadens into massive, platemail covered shoulders. Much like most of his kind, he is extremely, powerfully built with a massive, barrel-shaped chest, thick, cord-like biceps that end in five large, blunt fingers. The most distinct feature of his is the large scar across his throat that has robbed him of speech. His body then tapers down into a narrow, kilt-covered waist that stretches to his cloven hooves on very distinct, bovine-like legs. His fur is a thick, coarse tannish brown with patches of black fur on his chest, arms and tail. A massive bastard sword rests in a shoulder harness on his back while two large battle axes are strapped to his belted waist. Play-by: Personality: Arrak was robbed of his speech and has since been forced to adopt a new method of communication using shoulder gestures, snorts and his facial expressions. Hard to interpret most times, he relies on his long-time companions to handle most of the communication while he performs most, if not all, of the 'muscle' work. He is slow to anger; but, is quick to berserk when driven to it. Tenacious, courageous, intuitive, and bold, Arrak uses his wild prowess to survive in untamed lands. Proud and noble outside of combat; but, he can become a fearsome, tenacious beast in battle. History (Optional):
  17. T H E L I G H T S G O O U T Where were you when the world went dark? THE STORY: We, as humans, have long been compelled into complacency through technology. Have you ever asked yourself what if the lights didn't come on at night? What if your phone didn't work? What if your car didn't start? What if the world went dark? None truly wish for this to ever happen while many simply dream of what it could mean. They dream of days of wielding a sword in glory, defending their lady's honor, establishing their own kingdoms. None think of what it would truly mean. Millions starving in the cities as food deliveries never arrive, the murders and chaos that would ensue as those alive fought for every remaining scrap. The fires that would rage out of control as cities burned while firefighters, with all their training and gear, are forced to watch, unable to do anything to stop it. The police can merely threaten; but, they too are outnumbered and their weapons no longer work. The Change has come. That is what they referred to it as. The world was thrust into the pit of despair as everything that humanity had grown to cherish and brag about was taken. No one knows the truth, some no longer care, surviving is the new game. Hundreds who were laughed and criticized at for taking hobbies of the past have now become invaluable. Blacksmiths who struggled to find work before now are burdened with more than they can keep up with. Professional swordsmiths, swordsmen and jousters are now burdened with teaching those who can find a way to pay to defend themselves. States of the west, long burdened by those of supporting the east have grown tired and have established themselves as kingdoms of their own. The east lies in ruins, hundreds of once towering skyscrapers reduced to nothing more than rubble. Cars lie strewn about like countless, forgotten children's toys. Houses lie in shambles, stripped of anything valuable. The Empire of Portland has grown, slowly gobbling up the lands as its horde marches east. Cities, now become states of their own, are forced to choose sides. Metal is a commodity that holds immeasurable value and countless scavenger groups travel to the 'Dead Lands' east of the Mississippi where cannibals and nature thrive. The lands across the Atlantic and Pacific have become merely curiosities as sea travel has become as dangerous as the days of old. CURRENT FACTIONS/NATIONS: The Empire of Portland - The Empire was founded by Emperor Lucas Fraisier during the first few years of the Change, utilizing the crumbling, unstable state of Oregon. The Empire is a harsh, demanding nation that tolerates little to no disobedience. Absolute order is their goal and thousands join daily in the false hope that he promises. Citizens fear the Royal Inquisitor and his legions of Inquisitors who seek out 'dissenters' and those who seek to destroy what he has established. Their armies are currently at war with the other states. The Free States Republic of Idaho - The Free States are ruled by a governing council of elected elders, businessmen and nobles. They value neutrality and have worked to create a pact with the Empire of Portland in exchange for reduced taxes upon trading commissions and a steady stream of supplies, weapons and manpower for the war. The California Trading Union - Businessmen who took advantage of the Change, created the Trading Union to take advantage of the prosperous northern regions of California. They have worked hard to become one of the most prosperous, powerful nations west of the Mississippi. They are the on the verge of defeat at the armies of the Empire. The United States of Washington - The northern, secretive neighbor of the Empire. They have maintained strict policies on admission into their nation and none who enter, save merchants, ever leave. It is rumored that this nation has taken advantage of its prosperous timber regions to establish a powerful navy and it is this fear of the unknown that forces the Empire to maintain a standing army in its northern forts along the border. The Kingdom of Iowa - This powerful, agricultural giant is the only nation who has been able to hold equal footing with the Empire to its west. It's royal family have sought to maintain shaky alliances with the smaller nations/city-states of the west with promises of their protection. They field the second, largest standing army west of the Mississippi. THE RULES OF THE LAND Respect your fellow players, any disrespect will not be tolerated and repeated occurrences will be harshly punished. There is no posting order; however, if you wish to wait for someone to post, you are free to do so. Gunpowder does not ignite, normal combustion engines do not work and several other laws of plausible physics no longer work. Characters must be between the ages of 18-50, anything younger or older would have found it extremely challenging to survive without the aid of modern medicine and equipment. Questions should be PM'd to me to prevent cluttering this thread. You do not need to wait for approval of your character to reply. You do; however, to receive permission for the creation of new lands/territories. There is a limit of 2 characters per player currently. The rating is set at PG-14. 19. THE GEAR WAR STORY: Space, no longer the last frontier. Humanity has spread across the vastness, cultivating and inhabiting countless words. Humanity is greedy though and with such room we are constantly looking for other worlds with richer resources and always attempting to make contact with some other race, preferably alien. As space becomes more familiar we become lax with security and take less precautions when we scan new sectors of the galaxy. Our laziness would thrust us into a struggle to survive, to fight for our very existence against an enemy that has no feelings, no sense of surrender. This history would later be written down in historical texts as The Gear War. Let me tell you how this began.... Machines on some outpost a long-range recon fleet stumbles upon activate at the presence of alien technology and signal the home "world". They begin targeting and destroy the recon fleet. The machines, their programming coming into action then begin seeking other human technology, destroying it and all life associated with it without prejudice. Humanity hastily calls upon its fleets to defend the worlds. The once proud United Space Command Armada has been spread too far and much too thin and slowly planets begin to fall under machine control. The USC begins hastily hiring recruits and building bigger, more heavily armed and armored ships to battle the machine scourge. This is the maiden voyage of the Nautilus Fleet, the hope of humanity! 21. Noble Ambitions Where do you go when the world is shrouded in darkness? Plot Synopsis: In the country of Duarneria, a peaceful land once ruled by the Emperor Shroud XI. He was a ambitious man who conquered the lessor nobles in a matter of years. His kingdom continued to expand to engulf minor countries and nations where the people had yet to determine the difference between a stick and a sword. The Emperor's kingdom expanded to the Koren Mountains where the country was isolated from farther inland. The Empire was ruled in peace for the next thirty or so years, before the Emperor became fatally ill and died without an heir. Determined to take the throne, the nobles of the kingdom began a feudal civil war that would cast the Kingdom of Duarneria into darkness. The Lands/Kingdoms: * Archer Nation - The First Kingdom * Barbaric Nation - The Second Kingdom * Mountain People - The Third Kingdom * Religious Fanatics - The Fourth Kingdom * Archmage Nation - The Fifth Kingdom Cavjen Forest-The Cavjen Forest is a vast area stretching for one hundred miles. It is located in the southern part of the First Kingdom. It is home to thousands of different kinds of creatures, and reigns as the most diverse in population throughout all of the five kingdoms. Cavjen Village- The Cavjen village was built scarcely a stone's throw away from the forest many years ago, and the forest has since then pushed outward and engulfed the city. Now, it's a half a day's journey into the forest by foot to the village. Kar Village- Kar is the most secluded city of the archer nation, having been built deep inside the Cavjen Forest. It's terribly difficult to find if you have never been there before, making it the ideal place for archers and woodsmen to come and compete. A great festival is held there each year, and the only way to compete is to locate the village and reach it a week ahead of schedule. The greatest trackers, hunters, archers, and foresters of their trades travel across the kingdoms for the chance to compete, but the villagers don't make it easy for them to reach the city, and so there is often a small number of competitors. The Koren Mountains-The Koren Mountains are a vast and deadly chain that have, for so long as most can remember, prevented the kingdoms from branching any more inland. The Caid Village- Caid is one of the few scattered villages that have been built on the mountain range and helps make up the population of the Third Kingdom. Though the summers are pleasant here, the winters can be very treacherous, and so the inhabitants generally move to the Imperial City each fall to wait out the cold weather where it is safe. Since it is a mountain village, there is very little farming to be done, and most of its prosperity is the result of mining. The Klein Village- The village of Klein is also located in the Koren Mountains, but is a good distance from Caid and is higher up, making it colder there all year round than most places. As a result, it has a very low population and relies mostly on the kindness of others to help them get by, being a very poor area. Wun Village- The third and last mountain city, Wun is also the largest and most securely guarded. Despite the frigid temperatures, few ever depart from the city, and instead remain locked behind the giant walls guarding the city's secrets. The gates open twice a day for trade, but are otherwise kept shut, though the reason behind it all is a mystery to most. Alastein Village- Alastein is a savage and cold nation. Ruled by the invencible barbarians, this nation is home to most of the strongest warriors in the land. Alastein is known for it's large reserve of slaves (who are in reality War Prisioners). The slaves of Alastein are treated worse than animals, and are doomed to work until they are touched by the graceful hand of Death. The usual clothes in Alastein are made out of animals known for their might, such as wolves and bears. Their most known weapons are the Giant Axe and the Two Handed Sword, which has a double edge. Nifflehil Village - Ruled by the evil and perverted Demons. This nation is known for the way in which they treat humans: Slaves of all kinds. The live of a human has no meaning, and crushing them is considered less of a crime than crushing an ant. This nation is known for their sadistic tendencies, as well as for their dark and fiery atmosphere. They are located in the top of the mountains and are the smallest Nation. Denz Village- Denz is the largest and most prosperous of the cities found in the Fifth Kingdom. It is said that all of the magic of the Fifth Kingdom is from the beautiful fountain that is found in the center of their city. It is made of the purest silver from the fountains, and the kingdom's pride. Hender- Hender is the other major city in the Fifth Kingdom. Much like Kar, the magical folk of the kingdoms come to test their skills with one another here, and the sky is generally lit up at night by various spells. The Imperial City- Home to the recently deceased emperor, the Imperial City is easily the largest in all the Five Kingdoms, and the most crime-ridden. Found in the Fourth Kingdom, both the richest and the poorest make their homes there, though rarely associate. In the right areas, the city is beautiful and clean, but in others grimy and dangerous. Zimbol- A small village to the east of the Imperial City, its population is made up only of religious leaders. It is very quiet, especially in the evenings when it comes time to pray. Visitors are permitted to only stay two nights in the inn, before they must leave the city for fear of contamination. Zane- Zane serves as a sort of prison camp for the worst of criminals in the five kingdoms. It is heavily guarded by people from each nation and is filled with the most undesirable characters imaginable. Also found in the fourth kingdom. 22. THE PLOT: Rumors have begun circulating of an unknown virus originating from the southeast Asian sector of the world, codenamed A.R.E.S. Details about A.R.E.S are slim to none, the small snippets available hint that it began as an attempt to delve into creating a cure for mental diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, attempting to rewire the programming of the neurons to ignore the damaged circuits/pathways and create new ones. News has been quiet; but, rumors have begun circulating on the web about the militaries of the region beginning to mobilize and martial law being enforced. Domestic travel has been suspended temporarily to the entire Southeastern region of the globe; but, new cases have begun appearing in other portions of the world. The latest confirmed case, nicknamed Patient Twelve (the twelfth confirmed case), was reported checking into Mercy General in the Bronx. Media outlets have been prohibited access and the Surgeon General has warned the public not to panic, there is no cause for alarm. Of course, this had the opposite effect and people began fleeing the city in droves and mass hysteria followed. Lawlessness has quickly spread across the United States, the President declaring martial law and mobilizing all National Guard forces. As the world begins to go to shit, this is SURVIVAL: DAY ONE. 23. Name: George Arthur McAllister Age: 45 Physical Description: George is an imposing man who is constantly, if not nearly always, impeccably dressed in the best that money can buy. He exudes power, dominance and control. His dark, curly locks are trimmed to neat perfection no lower than his jawline and his beard is barely more than a neatly trimmed shadow. He bears the figure of an athlete, built for endurance. Sturdy shoulders, narrow waist and long legs ending in average sized feet. He is what many would consider handsome, save a savage scar running across the bridge of his nose and up through his left eye, effectively making him blind in it. Personality: Some would consider him cruel and unemotional; but, he is so much more. Calculating, quiet and slow to voice his opinions until he is certain he has everyone's attention. He knows he's wealthy; but, he rarely flaunts it in anything other than his clothing and house. He is intelligent but sensible, knowing when to back out of arguments where he is outmatched. His mind is sharp, his tongue sharper, though his opinions can be blunt. Play-By: (Optional)
