Don Cheadle To Play a Serial Killer Who Loves Jazz in New Thriller From 'John Wick' WriterDon Cheadle is set to star in Canyon, a new action-thriller flick from John Wick writer Derek Kolstad, and it is sure to be a killer. Literally, in fact, based on its interesting premise: Cheadle will play the titular character, Canyon, a part-time jazz musician and full-time serial killer who finds himself in the middle of a turf war between two crime families after he becomes the unlikely guardian of a young singer. The film will be directed by Colin Tilley, Deadline reports, a famed music video director who has helmed clips for Megan Thee Stallion, Justin Bieber, and Halsey, among others. He made his feature directorial debut with the horror film Eye for an Eye, which is currently seeking distribution. Cheadle is a renowned actor who received an Oscar nomination for his turn as activist Paul Rusesabagina in Hotel Rwanda, the true story of a hotel manager who houses Tutsi refugees during their struggle with the Hutu militia in Rwanda, Africa https://movieweb.com/don-cheadle-jazz-serial-killer-canyon-john-wick/

Tom Cruise and 'Edge of Tomorrow' Director are Finally Moving Forward with Long-Delayed Movie Tom Cruise is reuniting with director Doug Liman for a new movie, but don’t get too excited that this could be for Edge of Tomorrow 2. No, while fans are still not getting that sequel yet, they will be following up the success of their 2014 sci-fi action thriller and 2017’s American Made with the supernatural horror movie Deeper . While Cruise dabbled in family-friendly horror with Universal’s disastrous reboot of The Mummy, it looks like this will be a more mature and traditional “scary” movie for the pair to get their teeth into. Deeper was originally announced back in 2016, but since then, the film has gone through many different combinations of directors and actors with names such as Idris Elba, Gal Gadot, Kornel Mundruczo, and Baltasar Kormakur coming and going over the years. While it appeared that the film was destined to languish in development hell forever, the deal Cruise signed with Warner Bros. at the beginning of the year looks to have potentially saved it from that fate. Liman shared details of his next team-up with the Mission: Impossible star during a special screening of the documentary Gaucho Gaucho. As per Showbiz 411, Liman mentioned that he and Cruise are planning their first “scary” collaboration as something that neither of them have really done before. He did not elaborate any further on a timeline for the production of the film, but we can be sure to discover more soon. https://movieweb.com/tom-cruise-doug-liman-supernatural-horror-movie-deeper/

Resident Evil Director Reveals Gory Concept Art & Plans for Next Horror Game Adaptation Paul W.S. Anderson, best known for directing four of the original six Resident Evil movies, will bring another popular horror video game series to the big screen with The House of the Dead. The House of the Dead video game series began in 1997, one year after the first Resident Evil game, and the two games not only made zombie shooters a popular genre but also helped revitalize the zombie for modern audiences. The House of the Dead's innovation of fast-moving zombies would inspire films like 28 Days Later and Zack Snyder's remake of Dawn of the Dead. Deadline reports that Paul W.S. Anderson has signed on to direct the upcoming film adaptation of The House of the Dead. Anderson has made a name for himself by directing video game adaptations. Not only did he direct four Resident Evil movies, but he also helmed 1995's Mortal Kombat and 2020's Monster Hunter. He also directed the underrated sci-fi horror film Event Horizon as well as Alien vs. Predator. The House of the Dead game publisher Sega will be involved in the film. Anderson told Deadline his history with the franchise and what drew him to the project: https://movieweb.com/paul-ws-anderson-house-of-the-dead-movie-concept-art/

Michael B. Jordan's New Tom Clancy Action Thriller Finally Gets Production Update After Almost a YearIt has been a year since anything was mentioned about Michael B. Jordan ’s adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six , but the movie has finally been given a surprisingly positive update by director Chad Stahelski . The John Wick franchise veteran was originally announced to be directing a version of Clancy’s novel-turned-video game series, with Jordan reprising his role as John Kelly from the 2021 movie, Without Remorse. However, since then, there has been little movement on the movie, but Stahelski has now broken the silence. Speaking with The Direct, Stahelski explained why the film is taking a while to get going, and it seems to be the same age-old story of taking the time needed to get things right. Disney Is Remaking a Classic Pirate Movie, and It's Not 'Pirates of the Caribbean'Filmmaking duo Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz are teaming up with Disney to make a new version of Treasure Island. The duo, who previously directed the critically acclaimed film The Peanut Butter Falcon, have been making a splash in Hollywood recently, and their new film, Los Frikis, is arriving this Christmas. Schwartz and Nilson'sTreasure Island project is currently in development, so there are not many details yet. The directors spoke with The Hollywood Reporter to promote Los Frikis and teased the upcoming collaboration. Nilson said their pitch “has the patina of the 1970s surf world.” This could hint to a more modern riff on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel. Schwartz further described their approach, saying: Schwartz and Nilson also directed 2019's critically acclaimed indie film The Peanut Butter Falcon starring Zack Gottsagen, Shia LaBeouf, and Dakota Johnson. The story follows a young man with Down syndrome after he runs away from a residential nursing home to pursue his dream of becoming a pro-wrestler, befriending an outlaw who becomes his coach. In many ways, the story is comparable to Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Schwartz and Nilson's work in Peanut Butter Falcon makes them a great pick for another intriguing approach to a classic story. Treasure Island, originally titled The Sea Cook: A Story for Boys, is a historical adventure novel written by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. This is also not the first time Disney has adapted the story. There was a 1950 film adaptation starring Bobby Driscoll as Jim Hawkins, a young boy who finds a map to the coveted treasure of the notorious pirate Captain Flint. There's also Disney's 2002 animated cult classic Treasure Planet, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Martin Short, and Emma Thompson voicing the main cast. While not a hit at the time, audiences now love the adaptation for its unique genre-blending approach and steampunk aesthetic. The story placed the swashbuckling adventure in a futuristic space setting created using 2D and 3D animation. Treasure Island is also a coming-of-age story with action, excitement, danger, rambunctious characters, buccaneering, buried gold, and more. It's still early days for the project, but here's hoping there are no rough seas ahead. https://movieweb.com/disney-treasure-island-surfer-remake/
